Fair Information Practices

The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) is federal legislation passed in 2001 and fully implemented on January 1, 2004. While some provinces have passed their own privacy legislation, Ontario has not, so the federal legislation applies here. Increasingly, organizations and businesses rely on personal information to connect with their customers and members. Respecting and protecting customers’ and members’ privacy is part of good customer and member relations.

The purpose of the Act is “to establish, in an era in which technology increasingly facilitates the circulation and exchange of information, rules to govern the collection, use and disclosure of personal information in a manner that recognizes the right of privacy of individuals with respect to their personal information and the need of organizations to collect, use or disclose personal information for purposes that a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances.”

In order to be in line with PIPEDA we will take the following responsive action, should a data breach occur:

We will notify you via email
• Within 1 business day
We will notify the users via in-site notification
• Within 1 business day

We also agree to the Individual Redress Principle which requires that individuals have the right to legally pursue enforceable rights against data collectors and processors who fail to adhere to the law. This principle requires not only that individuals have enforceable rights against data users, but also that individuals have recourse to courts or government agencies to investigate and/or prosecute non-compliance by data processors.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Safety is our first priority and measures approved by the Public Health and CNESST have been implemented at MKM.
We’ve developed COVID-19 Risk Reduction Protocols:

– Placing standing hand sanitizer units before entering the gym and in our training room.
– Students are encouraged to bring their water bottles since our water fountain will not be available.
– Our training room and equipment are disinfected before and after each class.
– We also made adjustments to the number of students per class to ensure that everyone is safe.

The training at MKM Krav Maga is physically challenging, however, every exercise, drill, or technique is designed to help you improve – no matter what fitness level you are currently in. We will be there to support you every step of the way.

Absolutely! Krav Maga by definition gives a smaller/weaker person real life street advantage against a larger/stronger assailant. Women are naturally targeted for various assaults, from domestic violence to robberies to attacks of a sexual nature, date-rapes and stalkers. Unlike other martial arts which rely on a person’s strength and size for advantage Krav Maga will give you the edge you need to never be a part of the statistics.

We maintain the highest level of safety procedures, training equipment and protective gear to make sure you will not get injured during class. That being said, Krav Maga is an explosive activity and as such risk of injury always exists, but probably less than football or hockey. As long as you follow the rules and use common sense, the risk of injury drops significantly.

Krav Maga is a skill that requires time and effort to obtain. Since our classes tend to fill up, we want to invest our time, dedication and knowledge in those who take their training and personal safety seriously.

Children are exposed to a variety of risks, ranging from violence in school or in the playground to systematical bullying. Bullying is any behaviour that designed to purposefully cause pain, hurt or fear – many times targeted against kids or teens that cannot defend themselves. Countless of children are afraid to go to school due to repeated abuse by peers. Sometimes the children report the behavior but many times the abuse goes unnoticed for prolonged periods of time. The result – on a psychological level the child becomes introverted, shy and frightened, unable or unwilling to form trust. Often the child shows anxiety and depression symptoms which can lead to anti-social behaviour. School grades and other achievements drop as a result of low self-esteem. Teachers confuse this drop with lack of effort, laziness or they might suspect something is happening at home. On a physical level violence is always dangerous. A shove down the stairs or at the playground or repeated punching can lead to severe injuries or worse.
At MKM Krav Maga we provide your child (from 6 to 14) with the tools to avoid physical abuse – to be able to stop it at inception and deter any bully who might think he can hurt your child for whatever reason. We do not teach them to be violent, in fact, we keep track of our students personal records and make sure they understand that with great power comes great responsibility. Children who devote their time to martial arts are much less likely to get involved in random violence.

At the start of training, students learn the basics which build the foundation for everything else. The first level takes 3-6 months. Each level after that is about 5-6 months, depending on the level of mastery. The goal of Krav Maga is not becoming a Master; the goal is learn to learn how save your life. Students will most likely leave the first class with something that could save their lives!

Yes. Private classes can be taken at your selected location or at the Krav Maga school. The training content will be determined by your specific needs and goals. Semi-private training is also available, for example with a family member(s), friend(s) or coworker(s).

No, MKM Canada – Krav Maga uses a patch system. After passing a level test students will receive a patch and diploma. The patch is worn on the pants to identify their training level. MKM manages a grading system based on the following levels:

  • Practitioner levels (P levels 1 to 5)
  • Graduate levels (G levels 1 to 5)
  • Expert Levels (E levels 1 and up)

New students start with the P Level and can work their way through the levels. G levels are usually veteran Krav Maga students who often instructors. Each element of the curriculum is based on real-life attack – defence scenarios. Every P or G level includes self-defence solutions and counterattacks that derive from such scenarios. As one advances in grading the scenarios become increasingly complex. In addition to the classes for the different levels, MKM also offers extra curriculum qualifications for Krav Maga students such as seminars & workshops that focus on specific topics such as Carjacking or abduction, Bar Fight, Bus Panic…
